SEL & Intellispark for All: Using Technology to Improve Student Mental Health

Course Description:

Every child deserves to know what it feels like when an entire community of adults and peers has his/her back.” This is the idea behind Intellispark, which is an online platform for all educators and team members to utilize to communicate and support students socially & emotionally. Joining this session will allow you to see how all people supporting a student can be on the same page, with a one-stop platform that highlights areas of “high fives” as well as “flags” of concern. See how one local school, in collaboration with the HATC piloted this program this year and their experience with it. This is not a platform for students; This is a platform for adult team members to collaborate and communicate. “We…monitor progress and develop personalized paths to success for every child…to improve how schools and communities support all students – to help make student success team sport.” (Intellispark). Join this session for full access to this platform and to understand how you can easily collaborate and communicate as a team. .

Responses, Feedback, Pacing, and Flow: Engaging Adolescent Learners

Course Description:

Keeping students actively engaged in their own learning is an ongoing challenge for every teacher, but there are tools to help. Explicit instruction strategies such as frequent responses and a brisk pace can keep students too busy learning to get off task. At the same time, thinking strategies like standing whiteboards and random groupings activate student thinking and facilitate formative assessment.

In this one-day session, participants will explore and practice response strategies that engage all learners, formative assessment tools, and teaching practices that promote student thinking. The strategies apply to all grade levels, but most examples will be from Grades 3-10.
