Living Your Best Life with Parkinsons Disease

Course Description:

Recognize the cardinal symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease. Identify major classes of medical management options and their effects. Identify typical surgical treatments and their effects. Describe a rational approach to Parkinson’s treatment, including when neurosurgical consultation is warranted.

Understand the role of ongoing treatment after surgery. Recognize the non-motor symptoms associated with Parkinson’s Disease and utilize the best practices in treating those symptoms. Understand the major psychiatric symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease. Recognize nonmedication and medication options to manage mental health symptoms. Provide resources in the community. Identify speech and swallowing characteristics of persons with Parkinson’s Disease. Recognize the components of a speech evaluation and treatment for persons with Parkinsons Disease. Evaluate the components of a swallowing evaluation and treatment for persons with Parkinsons Disease. Understand evidence based research on the importance of exercise for people with Parkinsons.
